We just finished lunch at a new Vietnamese restaurant called Saigon Vietnamese on State Street in Santa Barbara.

We started off with the Pho and we are very non-traditional and asked for seafood instead of the normal pork or chicken.  The Pho was extremely good although they didn’t bring out the extra condiments until later on when we asked them too but that was offset by the fact when I asked for extra basil, they did.  The basil they used in Vietnamese restaurants is not your normal basil.  It’s just absolutely phenomenal.

After that we got the pineapple curry with seafood which was just great.  They take their squid and do it into the little crisscrosses like the way you cut into a mango which made it super extra easy to eat and it was super sweet and just phenomenal.  If you threw a little rice in and put a drop of their plum sauce in it and maybe a little bit of the extra basil it was just absolutely off the hook, really great food, super strong flavors.  It was interesting after eating at a Jewish restaurant this morning and a Vietnamese later on, it reminded me why I always go to Asian restaurants.  They just got it going on and they know how to work the flavors.
