National Get Smart About Credit Day is coming up on October 18th. Yep, you heard right, and it’s one holiday that I think every nationality & religion should celebrate! Seriously, it’s a day that the American Bankers Association came up with to spread awareness about smart credit decisions and how to utilize credit wisely. And this year, Wells Fargo is contributing to the holiday fun by offering free credit scores to its customers as well as a nation-wide education campaign about credit. The South Florida Business Journal reports,
“The South Florida Business Journal reportsSouth Florida’s largest holder of deposits announced two initiatives that will encourage consumers to learn more about their credit situations.
First, the bank is offering free credit score reports. From Oct. 1 through Nov. 15, all Wells Fargo consumer customers have complimentary, no-obligation access to their credit score and credit report.
Second, a month-long campaign will reach out to communities across the country and talk about the importance of credit and how to use it responsibly.”

I don’t think it’s customary to exchange gifts on this holiday, but splurging for a credit score, checking your annual free score, or if you’re a lucky Wells Fargo customer getting a complimentary credit check is definitely appropriate. Use this as an opportunity to clean your financial house and get up to date on where your score stands.
